The Darknet Diaries
Discover Darknet Diaries, a podcast by Jack Rhysider featuring hacking incidents, online scams, and real cybercrime stories, reminiscent of the Crims series but focused on the hidden depths of the internet.
The Darknet Diaries
I'm a big fan of a podcast that reminds me of the essence of the Crims series on 3cat, but transported into the world of cybercrime and hackers. It's called
Darknet Diaries (https://darknetdiaries.com/).
If you're a bit (or very) geeky like me and you enjoy stories filled with intrigue, mystery, and dark realities, you'll love it.
I find it really addictive.
What is Darknet Diaries?
The podcast is hosted by Jack Rhysider, a storyteller who delves into the darkest tales on the web: hacking incidents, online scams, espionage, data breaches… all narrated in a captivating manner, as if it were a true crime story. If, in Crims, Carles Porta recounts real-life crimes in Catalonia, here Jack does something similar, but exploring everything hidden in the deepest layers of the internet.
Some episodes I recommend
- Episode 40 - The Beirut Bank Job: A case of international intrigue where hackers penetrate banking systems.
- Episode 45 - Manfred: When the identity of a famous cybercriminal is exposed.
- Episode 72 - The Rise and Fall of Silk Road: An in-depth look at the vast online black market.
- Episode 117 - The Spy: A tale of digital infiltration and espionage straight out of a movie, featuring the folks at CitizenLab.
These episodes showcase the variety of topics the podcast covers: from imaginative hacking exploits to transnational police cases.
Where to listen
The show is entirely in audio format, and you can listen to it directly on its website or via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast apps. I usually put it on when I have a long drive or while I'm cooking…
If you're a fan of Crims and enjoy discovering real stories with a hint of mystery, Darknet Diaries is, without a doubt, a must-have on your list.
